Employee turnover rate explained
A common formula is departures ÷ average headcount × 100, where average headcount is often estimated from beginning and ending headcount. For example, 8 departures and average headcount of 100 gives 8%.
Organizations may define scope differently, including or excluding voluntary departures, involuntary departures, contractors or internal moves. Document the chosen definition and apply it consistently. The employee turnover calculator performs the general math.
