Understand absolute versus relative increase and why a zero starting value has no percentage increase.

Percentage Increase Formula

The formula is (new - original) ÷ original × 100. Moving from 80 to 100 is an absolute increase of 20 and a relative increase of 25%. A zero original value cannot be used as the denominator. Try the percentage increase calculator.
